Evolution of Video Games Cont...
In 1985 Nintendo released its first home console called the famicom in Japan, but was known as the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in North America and Europe, when it was first in stores it was bundled with Super Mario Bros. and was an instant success. The NES was the most bought console during its time in stores, and sales dominated all other video game manufacturers. Also the first the first Legend of Zelda game of the series was released and was titled The Legend of Zelda. The NES was successful for 10 years and popularity dropped only because of the discontinuation of production. The 1990's started gaming in 3D, and this introduced different genres including First Person Shooter and Real-Time Strategy. In 1991 Sega Master Drive was introduced along with Sonic the Hedgehog, this system rivaled the NES and also Super mario bros. Also during that decade the original Nintendo Game boy was released. The next generation of video games were created in the mid 90's these were The Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) and a couple of years later the Playstation, Sega Saturn, and Nintendo 64 were released. Most of these systems were using a newer format to sell games, instead of the traditional cartridge, CD-Roms and DVD's were being introduced.

Evolution of Video Games

So Today, i was thinking how video games have evolved over the last 40 years, and how we started with 2D black and white games to life like 3D full colour games with incredible unbelievable graphics. The first Commercially available video game was a coin operated and called Computer Space, the creator or the system eventually made the company Atari, and produced a system about 6 months later. Later the Home computer began to look more of a console than a work station. In 1979 some of Atari's programmers made the company Activision, because some of the anonymously created games they have created counted for 60 percent of all the game cartridges Atari sold. In the 1980 some of the best video game companies started their businesses, including EA (Electronic Arts) and also the year that Pac man was created. The 80's was a golden age for video games, the beginning of Genre's for games had begun, including Adventure, Beat em up, Fighting, Maze games, Platform games ( when moving up levels etc.), Racing games, Role playing games Etc. Also the start of Handheld games by Nintendo, Game & watch, these games used LCD ( Liquid Crystal Display) and were quite popular the first year. Then in 1983 there was the second video game crash ( the first in 1977) The crash was a result of over production of video games e.g. pac man & E.T. The extra- terrestrial, Atari allegedly Buried all the extra games in a landfill in Mexico.
Check out our next blog we will talk about the third generation of Video games including The NES & Handheld's like Sega Game Gear
